Itinerary

Morning:

Onboard Introduction (1 hour): Welcome, safety briefing, vessel orientation, and basic systems overview.

Departure and Sail Trim (3 hours): Hoist the sails and head out! Hands-on instruction on sail trim, points of sail, and basic maneuvering.

Afternoon:

Coastal Navigation Under Sail (3 hours): Introduce basic chart reading, navigation tools (compass, GPS, depth sounder), and piloting techniques while underway.

Anchoring Practice (1 hour): Arrive at a scenic anchorage. Demonstrate and practice anchoring techniques, including selecting a suitable location, proper procedures, and scope.

Morning:

Passage Planning (1 hour): Discuss weather considerations, route selection, and basic passage planning principles.

Passage Making (3 hours): Sail to islands, practicing navigation skills, and enjoying the journey.

Afternoon:

Navigation Challenges (3 hours): Engage in interactive exercises involving dead reckoning, piloting, and electronic navigation. Incorporate "man overboard" drills and basic rescue techniques.

Sunset at Anchor (1 hour): Enjoy a well-deserved sundowner while discussing the day's lessons and experiences.

Morning:

Boat Systems Deep Dive (2 hours): In-depth review of engine operation and maintenance, electrical systems, plumbing, and troubleshooting common issues.

Afternoon:

Open Water Passage (4 hours): Embark on a longer passage, practicing advanced sail trim, heavy weather techniques (if conditions allow), and emergency procedures.

Morning:

Mooring and Docking (2 hours): Master maneuvering in close quarters, including docking under power and utilizing spring lines.

Afternoon:

Independent Sailing and Assessment (2 hours): Students demonstrate their skills by planning and executing a short sailing trip, including navigation, anchoring, and boat handling.

Course Debrief and Certification (2 hour): Review key takeaways, answer questions, take written exam, and celebrate achievements with ASA 104 Bareboat Chartering certification!

What is included in this trek package?

  • Pick-up or Drop-off service from and to Airport(in our own vehicle)
  • Transportation to and from!!
  • Food all along the trip(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and a cup of coffee or tea) and accommodations during the trip in hotels with family environment
  • Transportation, food, accommodation and insurance of Guide during the trip
  • Down jacket, all-season sleeping bag, duffel bag and trekking map(in case if you don’t have your own. Down jacket, sleeping bag and duffel bag must be returned after completion of the trip)
  • First Aid Medical Kit(Your guide will carry the Medical Kit but we also advise to bring yourself for your own use, as far as possible)
  • All the required permits and paperwork

What is the ASA 104, Bareboat Chartering course?

The ASA 104 course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently charter and skipper a sailboat independently. You'll learn advanced sailing techniques, coastal navigation, boat systems management, and essential safety procedures.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

You should have successfully completed ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Sailing, and ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising, or have equivalent sailing experience.  If you have not taken ASA 101 or ASA 103, please contact us so we can help determine the best path.

What will I learn in this course?

Advanced Sail Trim: Fine-tuning your sails for optimal performance in various wind and sea conditions.

Coastal Navigation: Mastering chart reading, plotting courses, and utilizing navigation tools like GPS and compasses.

Boat Systems: Understanding and operating essential systems like engines, electrical, plumbing, and safety equipment.

Anchoring and Mooring: Selecting suitable locations and mastering anchoring and mooring techniques.

Safety and Emergency Procedures: Preparing for and responding to various situations, including man overboard drills and VHF radio communication.

Bareboat Chartering Procedures: Understanding charter company policies, vessel checkout procedures, and responsible cruising practices.

What is the International Proficiency Certificate (IPC)?

The IPC is an internationally recognized certification that allows you to charter sailboats in many countries around the world. Successfully completing ASA 104 qualifies you to obtain the IPC.

What if the weather is bad?

We will do our best to sail as much as possible. However, safety is our priority. If conditions are unsuitable for sailing, we will conduct theory sessions and practical exercises on land or adjust the itinerary accordingly.

How many students are in a class?

We keep our class sizes small to ensure personalized instruction and ample hands-on experience. Typically, there will be no more than 4 students per boat.
