Itinerary

Morning:

Welcome and introductions (30 mins)

Course overview and safety briefing (30 mins)

Basic boat terminology and parts (30 mins)

Practical: Boarding procedures, safety equipment familiarization, basic knots (3 hours)

Afternoon:

Practical: Sailboat handling under power, leaving and returning to the dock, maneuvering in confined spaces (4 hours)

Morning:

Theory: Points of sail, basic sail trim, understanding wind (1 hour)

Practical: Hoisting and lowering sails, basic sail trim on different points of sail (3 hours)

Afternoon:

Practical: Tacking and gybing, sail control in varying wind conditions (4 hours)

Morning:

Theory: Basic navigation principles, chart reading, safety equipment (1.5 hours)

Practical: Man overboard drills, basic collision avoidance (2.5 hours)

Afternoon:

Practical: Anchoring techniques, setting and weighing anchor (4 hours)

Morning:

Theory: Introduction to coastal cruising, voyage planning, weather forecasting (1.5 hours)

Practical: Basic coastal navigation, pilotage, and using navigational aids (2.5 hours)

Afternoon:

Practical: Overnight passage planning and preparation (4 hours)

Full Day:

Practical: Overnight sail to a nearby destination in Moreton Bay, applying learned skills in navigation, anchoring, and sail handling (8 hours)

Debrief and discussion of overnight experience (30 mins)

Morning:

Theory: Advanced sail trim, heavy weather sailing considerations (1 hour)

Practical: Reefing, heaving-to, advanced maneuvering techniques (3 hours)

Afternoon:

Practical: Independent sailing practice, applying learned skills under instructor supervision (4 hours)
